Robin’s Egg Bakery is celebrating its two-year anniversary this month; however, the organization will permanently close on the 22nd.
“The last two years have been some of the most exciting and fun times we’ve spent together as a couple. We were honored to be able to bring life back into Minnesota’s oldest operating Bakery.” Owners Erin and Devin Johnson said in a statement posted on their social media.
A bakery has operated at the site where Robin’s Egg stands since 1903 under the Rebstock name, making it one of Minnesota’s oldest bakeries.

The two owners noted the significant work that has gone into the space over the last two years, including constructing two ADA-compliant restrooms on the main floor for public use, updating numerous electrical projects, structurally reinforcing supports, and replacing countless feet of broken plumbing. In the dining room, they removed layers of old flooring to uncover and restore the original maple hardwood, painted the antique tin ceilings and brought many other attributes into compliance. However, after all the work and their other businesses, including seven rental units and the Makeshift Gallery at 418, they were ready to move on.
On January 1st 2026, the Bread People bakery will begin moving its operations from its current location, with their final day on Christmas Eve in their current spot. Bread People aims to open in February of 2026.
“We would like to give our deepest heartfelt thank you to the community, all of our loyal customers, and our staff for their support over the last two years in keeping this bakery a well-loved tradition and attraction in the downtown. We will continue to own and manage the building and the rental apartments above, so you will still see us around downtown as usual. Please share the same love and warmth that the community has shown Morgan and her team at Bread People as they make the transition Downtown. “- Erin and Devin Johnson, Owners of Robin’s Egg.
