Northfield Shares Announces “Dancing With the Northfield Stars” Fundraiser Amid Busy Season

By Rich Larson

Northfield Shares is entering one of its busiest periods of the year, highlighted by the announcement of a new community-wide fundraiser, “Dancing With the Northfield Stars,” according to Executive Director Carrie Carroll.

Carroll said the local community foundation has seen “a really busy couple of months,” marked by new staff additions, expanded programming, and increased community engagement. The organization recently welcomed Karen Roback as financial coordinator and Kerry Hjelmgren as grants and communications manager, strengthening its capacity to manage grants and outreach.

But the headline announcement was a first-of-its-kind event designed to bring together nonprofits, volunteers, and donors in a unique way.

“This is the first ever in Northfield,” Carroll said. “Dancing With the Northfield Stars will bring together volunteers from seven nonprofits, each paired with a local dance instructor, to compete while raising money for their organizations.”

Participating groups include the Northfield Arts Guild, YMCA, Project Friendship, The Key, Sharing Our Roots, Epic Enterprises, and Believe Vet. Each team will train throughout the summer and fall before performing on November 7, when a winner will be selected based on both judging and fundraising efforts.

Carroll emphasized that the competition is less about winning and more about community impact. “At the end of the day, I think everybody’s going to win,” she said. “It’s about celebrating community, raising money for community, and being together.”

The event represents a broader effort by Northfield Shares to expand how residents engage in charitable giving. Initiatives such as its new “Circle of Influence” micro-grant program and regular fundraising partnerships, including a “Cocktails for Community” event, aim to increase participation and awareness.

“As a foundation, we want people to know we’re here to support everyone,” Carroll said. “This is a win-win-win for the community.”

Tickets and additional details are expected later this year.
