The 2026 edition of the Northfield Hospital & Clinics Auxiliary’s annual Book Sale—one of the community’s longest‑running fundraisers— is up and running, promising thousands of bargain‑priced books and a week of community spirit.
Book Sale Chair Mark Heiman says this year’s collection has been especially strong. “The books have been flowing in,” Heiman said in an interview. “I think we’ve seen more come in this year than we’ve ever had before. That means we’re going to have a whole lot more for people to buy.”
The sale opened yesterday afternoon, and runs through Saturday at the Northfield Ice Arena. Heiman noted that while there was the traditional long line in front of the evening yesterday, shoppers didn’t need to wait very long. In fact, he said, by 5:10, people were able to walk right in, pointing to the sales floor’s ice‑arena size and efficient volunteer operation.
This is the 63rd year of the Auxiliary’s book sale, supported by an army of 300 to 350 volunteers. The event features 31 major sections—ranging from fiction and children’s books to technology, cooking, health, and hobbies—each clearly labeled and organized to help shoppers find what they’re looking for.
Prices are intentionally low. Most paperbacks cost $1, hardcovers $2, with select newer or specialty books priced slightly higher. He said the goal for the sale isn’t to make a lot on any single book, but to sell many books in volume.
Proceeds from the Book Fair support the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary, funding projects beyond the hospital’s budget and initiatives such as baby books for newborns, healthcare scholarships, and community health partnerships.
And of course, as always, the week includes special deals: half‑price day on Friday, a $5 bag sale Saturday morning, and the popular free‑book finale Saturday afternoon. Full details are available at northfieldbookfair.org.
