The Northfield City Council will convene for a regular meeting in the Council Chambers at City Hall, with a full agenda that blends routine business, policy discussions, and several notable presentations.
Public participation will again play a key role early in the meeting, with open public comment scheduled through approximately 6:20 p.m., giving residents an opportunity to weigh in on city business before formal deliberations begin.
Among the evening’s highlights are two presentations expected to provide a broad overview of city operations and finances. The council will hear a brief on the 2025 Annual Police Report, which typically outlines calls for service, crime trends, and department activity. In past years, police reports have included data on call volume, traffic stops, and public safety initiatives. A separate presentation will offer first-quarter 2026 financial and investment updates, giving council members an early look at the city’s fiscal position. A lengthy consent agenda includes approval of routine items such as meeting minutes and more than $3.7 million in disbursements, along with agreements tied to post-election review, stormwater management with Carleton and St. Olaf colleges, and several local business applications, including temporary liquor licensing and hemp edible retailer registrations.
The meeting’s public hearing will focus on a proposed ordinance to vacate a drainage and utility easement at 2420 Bridgewater Lane, followed by council consideration of the ordinance’s first reading.
On the regular agenda, council members will take up a charter amendment process, consider a second reading of an ordinance adjusting mayor and council compensation for 2027 and 2028, and discuss the naming and designation of the Cannon River Regional Park. The compensation ordinance is already moving through the required approval steps, with a second reading scheduled for this meeting.
Additional discussions will address early voting administration following recent state legislation, before the meeting concludes with reports from city leaders and an administrative update.
Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6:00.
