The City of Northfield will begin routine street maintenance and repair work in the downtown area this week, with crews expected to continue work until all projects are completed.
Construction is scheduled to start the week of June 15 and will involve a series of short-term work zones throughout downtown streets. City officials say the work is part of an ongoing effort to maintain and improve the condition of local infrastructure.
To accommodate the repairs, temporary traffic control measures will be put in place, including cones and periodic lane closures. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are being urged to use caution when traveling through affected areas and to follow posted signs and instructions from crews on site.
“While we will do everything possible to minimize disruption, there will be some impacts to traffic flow,” the city said in a statement.
Motorists should plan for brief delays, particularly during active construction periods. On-street parking may also be restricted near work zones as crews move through different sections of downtown.
Despite the work, city officials emphasized that access to local businesses and residences will be maintained whenever possible. The city encouraged residents and visitors to remain patient as crews complete the repairs.
The timeline for the project is dependent on weather conditions, meaning schedules may shift if rain or other factors delay construction.
City leaders say regular maintenance like this is essential to extending the life of streets and ensuring safe travel throughout the community.
Officials thanked the public in advance for their cooperation during the project.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to keep Northfield’s streets in good condition,” the statement said.
